Maxime Charasson re-envisions vinyl to create phonotropes, i.e. analogue animations that come to life through the record’s rotation and the stroboscopic effect. In Paper-Gif – Summer, he scales up the concept with a monumental two-meter-diameter phonotrope that transforms the animation into an immersive, hypnotic experience.
This piece, which bridges optical illusion, graphic art, and an homage to the beginnings of cinema, investigates the connection between image, rhythm, and object, providing a playful and poetic exploration of how we perceive.

Maxime Charasson is a graphic designer and illustrator who is passionate about moving objects and artisanal animation techniques. Drawing on his graphic design background, his personal projects explore the links between volume, illusion, and visual narrative.
