Urban lifestyles & local culture

Fancy discovering the best in design, gastronomy, fashion, and accessories from the Grand Duchy and the Greater Region, all under one roof? Look no further than Super Maart, back for its 4th edition at Rotondes! Following the resounding success of previous years, the Super Maart pop-up has become the go-to event for those keen to unearth hidden treasures. From DIY to semi-pro creations or ventures with more of a start-up’ or social focus, the items and services from artists and creatives are spread across two spaces, each with its own distinct atmosphere.

In the Galerie, you’ll once again find our team’s top picks, while this year the Plateforme throws open its doors to the social sector, welcoming two initiatives from the prison system: Défi-Job and the workshops of the Centre pénitentiaire de Luxembourg. Together, they’ll host a pop-up shop showcasing work produced by inmates in Luxembourg.

Prison workshops aren’t merely places to make time behind bars useful; they strive for the socio-economic reintegration of inmates through training programmes. The primary aim of putting detainees to work is to provide them with regular employment, thus helping them get back into society once they’re out.

  • Défi-Job (non-profit) promotes the socio-professional reintegration of individuals placed at Givenich Penitentiary Centre, in the hope that regular employment might reduce the risk of reoffending.
  • Jailbird is a brand of products conceived by local designers (Olaf Recht, Linda Bos, and Runa Egilsdottir) and manufactured by inmates at Givenich Penitentiary Centre, who are employed by the non-profit organisation Défi-job.
  • Luxembourg Penitentiary Centre is a closed prison located near Schrassig. Inmates participate in workshops and community work organised by the penitentiary centre as part of their detention.
