Les Voyeuses Étienne Duval
INTENTION
“Rotondes’ buildings, with their distinctive cylindrical shape, stand out against the city’s grid-like layout, almost as if they’re inviting the neighbourhood to join in the fun. The Schuebi annulée series captures the playful spirit that Rotondes brings to a city often seen as too quiet. It cleverly incorporates iconic funfair elements – carousel, Ferris wheel, and roller coaster – into Rotondes’ landscape, merging and celebrating two of Luxembourg’s major August events: the Congés Annulés festival and the Schueberfouer (or ‘Schuebi’ to the locals).”
BIOGRAPHY
Étienne Duval was born in Metz. He studied architecture in Nancy and Leipzig.
The beginning of his professional career was characterised by collaborations with renowned architectural companies, such as Japanese firm SANAA, contributing to their Louvre-Lens project, or Bjarke Ingels Group BIG in Denmark – landing the job thanks to a viral job pitch video that gained worldwide attention.
In addition to being an architect, he also works as an illustrator and has notably worked for seven years with the Belgian French-language public service broadcaster RTBF, creating 100 episodes of a video series popularising classical music.
2018 saw Étienne Duval strike out on his own with YO studio, a multidisciplinary creative architecture and design atelier engaged in putting a playful stamp on objects, spaces, images, experiences, and communication elements throughout the cross-border region around Luxembourg.
